I know you’ve heard me say a million times that self-care is not the answer, and that’s true. It isn’t the answer. Self-care will not solve burnout or just plain overwhelm but it is a necessary part of life. Ignoring self-care for too long can be part of what leads to burnout in the first place.
So in that vein, I wanted to share a few of my favorite self-care items and when I use them.
Morning routine items:
In the morning, I get up around 7AM to start our day. This works perfectly especially since we don’t currently have to leave our house for school.
I start the morning by brushing my teeth with the Oral-B electric toothbrush and Spry Cinnamon toothpaste. I went fluoride-free for various reasons and I love the extra protection xylitol gives my teeth. I haven’t had a bad checkup since I made the switch.
I also try to meditate with Headspace around this time, but it doesn’t always happen. My husband and I alternate which mornings we do breakfast for the kids.
I use Aveeno ageless under eye cream AND daytime lotion.
I fill my Hidrate Spark water bottle and take my vitamins before drinking my bulletproof coffee.
Mid-day routine:
I eat my first meal around this time. I do intermittent fasting. This usually consists of leftovers from the night before to make life easier for all or a jar salad prepared in these Pampered Chef containers.
This is also usually when I shower. I use Mrs. Meyers body wash for this to give me a nice scent and keep my skin nice and moist. I’ve noticed that a lot of soaps were just drying me out more.
Evening routine:
In the evening, I like to wind down by watching a little television with my husband. Our recent watches include Enola Holmes, Dead to Me, Mrs. America, Dickinson, and The Great British Bake Off.
He then prepares me a golden milk in my favorite mug.
I go upstairs and take a warm bath with my bath caddy and play Gallery on my Ipad and do my gratitude journal in GoodNotes. I’m also going to start doing 5-Minute Journal again soon.
After my bath, I put in my sleep ear plugs, do a sleep meditation from Headspace, and start to really relax.
